Serving at Mass
Service during the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist may be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Being a part of one of the most intimate of the sacraments can bring you closer to Christ in a way you never expected.
You can serve during Holy Mass as any of these service positions:
Lector,
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EM),
Sacristan, and/or
Altar Server.
(click on the link for more information on each position)
The Newman Center offers training days for those interested in serving during Mass. Future training dates will be announced here and at the Newman Center so keep an eye out!
Lectors - are commonly known as "readers." They proclaim the Word of the Lord as well as lead the Prayers of the Faithful.
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion - also known as "EMs." They assist in the distribution of the Sacred Body and Blood during communion.
Sacristans - set up before and after Mass. Sacristans are also responsible for ensuring all Mass servers are present and accounted for, preparing the gifts, and collection.
Altar Servers - assist the celebrant during Mass. The Newman Center only trains men to become altar servers.
